Summary: Collection consists of the territorial and New Mexico district court records for Bernalillo County(1848-1927). The bulk of the material covers the years, 1848-1917. Included are record books(1848-1917), case files(1850-1927), and other court material. Record books consist of various dockets(1848-1917), court proceedings record books(1853-1912), jury record books(1892,1905-1914), cash books(1874-1912), and cost books (1853-1854, 1861-1862, 1875-1881). Dockets include criminal(1865-1875, 1867, 1882), civil(1882-1912), civil and criminal (1859-1860, 1879-1881), judgment(1882-90,1891-1917), law (1865-1878), and execution (1894-1895) volumes. Indices for some of the criminal and civil dockets are also included. Court proceedings record books, judgment dockets, and judge's record books include material for Dona Ana, Socorro, and Valencia Counties. Cash books include material for McKinley, Sandoval, and Valencia Counties. Case files consist of criminal cases 1-6460(1850-1927) and civil cases 1-11164, 11678 (1854-1917). Large gaps may exist between case files. Many criminal and civil case files are unnumbered. Also included are Civil War confiscation cases. Some cases after 1913 are not part of this collection. Other court material consists of bar admissions, subpoenas, oaths, and bonds.

Sandoval County, New Mexico was established in 1903 and formed part of the 2nd Judicial District of the United States Territorial Courts in New Mexico. Upon statehood in 1912 the Territorial Courts became the New Mexico District Courts. In 1971, Sandoval County was transferred from the 2nd to the 13th Judicial District.
